UN-Environment supports countries in monitoring and reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6, including target 6.5: “by 2030, implement integrated water resources management (IWRM) at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate. " This task supports the equitable and efficient use of water resources, which is of great importance for social and economic development, as well as for environmental sustainability.

III Astana Economic Forum on “Sustained Economic Growth in the Post-Crisis Period” finished its work in the capital city of Kazakhstan. The Forum has been organized by "Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists" Association, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan and JSC “Institute of Economic Research”. This year's annual Economic Forum has been attended by over 3000 representatives of political and business groups from more than 70 countries, as well as leading scientists, community and media leaders to discuss key issues of the global economy development.  Session has been organized by NESDCA at support ESCAP, UNDP, OSCE, NDP "Nur-Оtan" on which was presented the First National Report «Opportunities of use and introduction of mechanisms of green growth policy tools in strategic planning system in the Republic of Kazakhstan».

02.04.2010

On April, 1-2, 2010 in Almaty the National Stakeholder Seminar “The opportunities for application and integration of Green Growth policy tools in strategic planning in Republic of Kazakhstan” was passed. Representatives of the Presidential office of Republic Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Agency of Republic Kazakhstan on ground resources, Agency of Republic Kazakhstan on statistics, the international organizations - ESCAP, OSCE, UNDP, Institute of the system analysis of the Russian Academy of sciences, Institute of Economy of the Ministry of Education and Science, Academy of the government at President РК, the Regional ecological center of the Central Asia, NGO, business – structures and other took part in work of a seminar.  As the results of the seminar, and close discussion with stakeholders of the National report, valuable recommendations for the interested parties have been prepared.

The ministry of environmental protection together with UNDP, Academy of State management at the President of RK and NESDCA carried out the seminar - meeting on realization of the Conception of Transition of  the Republic of Kazakhstan to sustainable development for 2006 -2024 years. The representatives of Government, ministries, departments and institutes of RK, international, public and scientific organizations, representatives of business etc. were participated in the work of seminar. NESDCA on the seminar presented the brochure, prepared by results of the project, "Priorities of the Conception of Transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to sustainable development" and short film "Process of sustainable development in the Republic of Kazakhstan".

Sustainable Development Indicators for countries in Transition.

Indicators developed in the government may be useful for administrative purposes, but not consistent with a policy of sustainability. Participation requires the desire to cooperate and use trade-offs to achieve the common good, that is, identification with a sustainable future of the country and the desire to contribute to such development.

KAZAKHSTAN’S ACCESSION TO THE WTO: CONSEQUENCES FOR
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The results of the work implemented by “The Network of Experts for Sustainable
Development of Central Asia” under Earth Council International Project “Globalization,
WTO and NIS: broadening the public participation for sustainable development” are
presented in the book. Authors offer the ways on preventing the negative consequences
of Kazakhstan’s accession to the World Trade Organization on the base of research of the
WTO’s potential for sustainable development.
